In late October, 100 students, from Regional Victoria and NSW, will converge on Swan Hill, in North-Western Victoria, for 3-days of intensive workshops and rehearsals, culminating in the 14th Annual Fairfax Festival Gala.
The Fairfax Festival, named after the late George Fairfax, is an annual Regional Performing Arts event which this year includes students from Swan Hill College, MacKillop College, Robinvale P-12 College, Manangatang P-12 College, Tyrell College, St. Joseph's College, Balranald Central School and Northcote High School.
Students will rehearse with tutors on pieces they've been devising over the past three terms, including Don Bridges, Bryan Davidson-Blue, Felicity Steel, Douglas Bair and Kaarin Fairfax. They will also engage in workshops on acting for film, circus skills and stage fighting, as well as working with the Swan Hill Town Hall Technical Team to develop skills in Stage Management, lighting and sound operation.
The work will then be performed on Thursday, October 28th, at the Fairfax Festival Gala, before an audience of friends, family, community and industry supporters. Each group will also be rewarded for their efforts with further developmental opportunities in 2011 from a variety of professional sources.
The 2010 Fairfax Festival runs from October 26th - 28th, culminating in the Gala on the evening of October 28th.
