The Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts (ACPA) has seen a 50% increase in student numbers this year, making it Australia's largest Indigenous arts training organisation. The Centre provides nationally recognised and accredited courses from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma levels in dance, acting, music and singing, all in a culturally sensitive and supportive environment.
Enrolments for the July intake are now open.
Students from ACPA may go on to work professionally within the Australian performing arts industry. Current Advanced Diploma student Jesse Martin has recently accepted a traineeship with Expressions Dance Company, one of Queensland’s leading contemporary dance companies. He has performed to local and national dignitaries at a State Reception for the Launch of the Preamble to the Constitution at Parliament House, and appeared on the 2010 season of So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
After watching Martin’s audition piece, judge Jason Coleman commented,
"I think the whole world should watch you dance; seriously world class."
ACPA is well-respected within the Australian arts industry, with links to some of the countries most recognised performing arts’ professionals. The Centre’s Artistic Director, acclaimed actor Leah Purcell, is currently touring with the Bell Shakespeare Company’s production of King Lear, and will soon be featured in QPAC 25 as one of the State's twenty-five most important artists.
Applications for the July admission period are due by 30th April.
Potential students are encouraged to apply early to meet Abstudy requirements.
