Canberra Youth Theatre is going to have the young people of Canberra Acting Up this semester as they kick start the year in dramatic style! The 2010 Semester 1 Brochure has been released and classes across all age groups are filling fast. CYT invites young people aged 7-25 to come in and create some drama: act, learn, have fun, make new friends and perform in our theatre.

Canberra Youth Theatre was established in 1972 and is the longest running youth theatre in Australia. CYT provides young people ages 7-25 with the opportunity to explore, extend and develop their creativity through theatre workshops and productions.

Young people work with professional artists to unleash their imaginations and create enriching, collaborative and innovative theatre in a multitude of ways. CYT will be encouraging the young actors of Canberra to Act Up by:

• Performing at the National Folk Festival as part of our youth variety performance event, hiJinx

• Launching our new Teen Actors Ensemble for 15-18 year olds who want to commit to developing their performance skills. This will also include being part of the production of RETRIEVAL.

• Engage our senior CYT Actors Ensemble (ages 18-25) in RETRIEVAL, a hybrid art installation performance at the National Library of Australia
   
• Expand Open House, our Emerging Artists Residency Program for young developing artists seeking to create/rehearse/ develop their own theatrical project

• Award 2 new Chrysalis Scholarships: David Branson Memorial Performance Scholarship & the Jan Wawrzynczak Memorial Technical Scholarship

• Participate in the Canberra Festival with BATTLEFIELD, a Butoh inspired Live-Art work that explores the cross-generational desire to reach for perfection through conformity. Production in C-Block theatre.

• Offer workshops and performance opportunities for ages 7-25 ranging from storytelling toimprovisation, script work from Shakespeare to today, acting technique to physical theatre.

In the International Year of Youth, CYT is calling for young people to ACT UP! and enrol now. Enrolments close on 5th February.
