Platform Theatre’s Provokateur project returns in 2010 for another inspiring year.
Provokateur 2010 is a mentor based skills and creative development project for four Writers, Directors, and Designers, and twenty Actors. Over the course of eight months, from April – November 2010 there will be the opportunity for intensive one on one, small group, whole group and project team mentoring.
As well, there will be four ‘side bar’ creative dialogue days open to all who express interest along with members of the wider theatre making community. These dialogues will centre around writing, direction, design and acting.
The mentoring artists for 2010 are:
Gorkem Acrolugu – Dramaturg/Director
Tanya Beer – Design/Theatre Animateur
Celeste Croggon-Young – Dramaturg/Performer
Lucy Freeman – Director/Performance coach
Damien Miller – Writer/Design educator.
For more information about the mentors see Platform’s website under current projects, where you will find their short biography statements
Following an initial get to know you period with the artist mentors writers; directors; and designers will be matched into creative teams, with actors matched to the works as they evolve. Each team will then work towards the development of a full-length script for presentation as a moved reading, along with the presentation of design treatment/s for each work.
Selections for Provokateur 2010 will be managed by Platform Youth Theatre. Below are the basic requirements to express your interest.
All – 1 page CV outlining your theatre and performance making experience to date; and a short statement about why you are interested in being a part of Provokateur 2010, as well as:
Writers – extract of previous writing, no more than 10 pages, plus a synopsis of the work you are proposing for Provokateur 2010.
Directors – Statement about your interest in directing for theatre and performance and participation in a drama/performance-making workshop.
Designers – Statement about your interest in designing for theatre. Plus any relevant images of your work in PDF format 1 – 3 pages.
Actors – Statement about your interest in theatre and performance along with participation in a drama/performance-making workshop.
To bring a common frame of reference to the project the mentoring artists have suggested four pre-existing and contrasting texts as starting points for discussion and debate. These works will be supplied by Platform and are: Amedee. or How to Get Rid of It by Eugene Ionesco; Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl; Cloud Street The Play by Justin Monjo, Tim Winton & Nick Enright & Modern International Dead by Damien Miller.
