posted Thursday, 1 Jul

Asialink's 2010 Annual Arts Forum Art Asia Future- new models for residency, collaboration and exchange takes place at the University of Melbourne's Sidney Myer Asia Centre on Friday, July 23.

What does the future of international artistic collaboration look like?

With 20 years experience running Australia's largest international arts residency program, Asialink looks forward to the next two decades. They explore ideas of collaborative artist camps, carbon-neutral exchanges, cross-media incubators, long-term placements, cross-cultural collaborations, virtual residencies and more.

Join Korean curator, art historian and critic Dr. Kim Hong-hee for the keynote address, Post-Museum, exploring new forms of partnerships between art museums and alternative organisations. Dr Kim is Director of the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and her previous roles include Commissioner for the Korean pavilion at the 2003 Venice Biennale.

The keynote will be followed by an in-conversation panel discussion on the hot issues facing artists and writers wanting to work internationally. Asialink Writing Program Manager Nic Low hosts Next Wave Festival Artistic Director Jeff Khan, author Kirsty Murray, and Arts House Associate Producer Kate Ben-Tovim.

The Asialink Arts Forum is a free event in celebration of Asialink's 20th anniversary, and to welcome new Asialink Arts Director Lesley Alway.

“Asialink is committed to further develop the residency concept, and explore new models and opportunities that embrace new ideas in emerging technologies, indigenous culture and the environment,” said Director Alway.

“The Asialink Arts residency program continues to play a key role in the development of significant and sustainable long-term relationships between Australian and Asian
artists and organisations. Built on principles of collaboration, people-to-people dialogue and reciprocity, it is integral to improving cultural literacy within the region.”

The Asialink Arts Residency Program each year sends 40 Australian artists, writers, performers and arts managers on three to four month residencies to Asia.

Applications are now open for the 2011 program and close 10 September 2010.

The Asialink Annual Arts Forum is on Friday July 23, 6 – 8pm at the Sidney Myer Asia Centre, University of Melbourne (Yasuko Myer Room Level 1). The event is free, with refreshments included.
