On Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 January, Canberra Theatre Company will be holding auditions for their upcoming production, Cockroach.
Sam Holcroft's Cockroach is a damning exploration of the need for resilience and adaptation in young people, striking Darwin's theory of evolution straight into the heart of a group of high school students, trapped in an after school biology detention class - a microcosm of the long and bloody war happening outside the school walls.
This play is dark, uplifting, confronting and funny and will require actors who are open minded willing to work intensively and willing to take risks. The emerging artists will spend an intensive week of full time exploration and rehearsal in January followed by regular rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday day rehearsals. This production will be the Australian Premiere and have the capacity to tour the ACT and beyond.
The Characters:
LEE - A hardened teen, Leah's boyfriend. Anger management issues.
LEAH - The popular beauty, long term girlfriend of Lee. A bit of a smart mouth on her.
DANIELLE - The reserved teen with a very quiet intrigue.
MMOMA - Non-caucasian / ethnic student, preys on the boys. Tough as nails.
DAVEY - A class clown, smart, quietly serious and mad about Danielle.
BETH - Their teacher.
