The 2009 AWESOME Festival is set to be bigger and better than ever, showcasing the latest and greatest new media, contemporary dance, far-out theatre, sculpture, street theatre and quirky films.
The 2009 AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things is on in the Perth CBD from November 22 to 29 and boasts inspiring and amazing artists from Belgium, France, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia and of course, the best from the West!
Llamaland is a stunning explosion of colour, smells, sounds and ideas. Created by Western Australian artist Rose Skinner, this fantastical installation is nothing short of extraordinary; using found, used and recycled objects to take you on a bizarre adventure to an alternative reality where nonsense reigns free.
Paint with Light will see the Netherlands’ leading new media producers Pips:LAB paint the town red with light and invite you to learn amazing skills in creating DIY new media art.
Crash is a magical insight into film-making and live theatre, inviting the audience into a sea container to view a short film made right in front of your eyes. Follow the story of a little man who is tired of walking. He marches over the heads of the audience to steal a car. He crashes in the autobahn; the ambulance arrives quickly, but will be survive?
Check out the Urban Playground Quartet and never look at a city-scape the same way again! Parkour performers flip, fling and fly across a modular terrain of platforms to create an intense wordless drama of dance and speed at height.
The OPEN BOOK exhibition is a stunning insight into the creative minds of talented young people living in regional and remote Western Australia. The interactive exhibition is a kids-eye-view of ten communities, sharing stories, ideas and identity with Metropolitan Festival-goers.
2009 marks BHP Billiton Nickel West’s third year as Principal Partner to the AWESOME Festival. This unique partnership was recognised at the 2008 Australia Business and the Arts Foundation Awards, winning the national Qantaslink Regional Award.
