Sydney Opera House, NAISDA Dance College and Message Sticks 2011 present the second Babies Proms in the 30th Anniversary season, I See (Ngarrany Nhama Dätiwuy Ngath I Man) from May 5 – 15.

I See is part of Message Sticks 2011 and has been created as a fun and engaging way for children aged 2 – 5 to be introduced to Indigenous Australian music, dance and storytelling. This is the first time Message Sticks has featured a Babies Proms performance in its line up.

Join Goanna and Wind as they travel from mainland Australia to the Torres Strait Islands in search of the sun. Along the way they meet an Emu who joins the journey and together they discover the deep, mystical tones of the Yidaki, a type of didjeridu used by the Yolngu people of the north-east Arnhem Land.

Children will have the opportunity to join in a rhythm dance accompanied by the instruments of the Torres Strait Islands including the warup (bass drum), thrum (bamboo rhythm drum) and the kulap (hand shaker).

NAISDA Dance College, based in Kariong NSW, is a unique cultural organisation providing Indigenous dance and performing arts, education and training.

Message Sticks is an integral part of the cultural calendar and reflects Sydney Opera House’s commitment to support Indigenous art and culture. Now in its 12th year Message Sticks 2011 will present free screenings of feature, documentary and short films along with filmmaker Q&A sessions, performances for young audiences, musical cabaret and a panel discussion examining Indigenous storytelling in the performing arts.

Babies Proms introduces young people aged 2 to 5 to the joys of live music and storytelling in a relaxed, informal and interactive environment. Babies Proms is part of our Kids at the House program which provides a year-long series of performances and creative experiences for young people. 2011 marks the 30th Anniversary of Babies Proms.
