Backbone Ensemble – FINAL WEEK TO APPLY

Backbone is looking performers and performance makers aged between 21 and 26 years who are interested in joining Backbones exciting new Ensemble. People who are actors, performers, dancers, circus performers, directors, musicians, puppeteers, designers, visual artists and futurists who are excited by developing new ways of creating performance. are all welcome to apply and you must be an adventurer and an explorer.


Backbone Ensemble is a five month long, audition entry professional development and performance opportunity for emerging performers interested in investigating contemporary performance as a performance practice. Led by Backbone’s Artistic Director Andrew Cory and guest tutors, the training will lead participants to develop various skills pertinent to exploring new ways of creating performance in the 21st century. The Ensemble will undertake training over a five month period.

The training will allow participants to gain new skills in creating contemporary performance work. You will be given time to work on your own studio based performances.

WHEN: Training will be Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-1pm, 8th March – 28th July 2011 (excluding 19-28 April inclusive)

HOW: Acceptance into the Ensemble is by audition only. Backbone will be holding a workshop style audition on 17th February 2011, 10 am – 12 pm in Studio 4.2, Level 4, Metro Arts.

There is no need to prepare anything just register, turn up and play. The audition will consist of movement exercises, voice play, improvisation and collaborative devising. Audition numbers will be capped.
