Barefaced bring NYC storytelling to Perth

posted Saturday, 1 Jan

Acclaimed New York storyteller Margot Leitman (The Moth Grand Slam Winner, Stripped Stories co-host) will take the stage with Barefaced creative producer Andrea Gibbs (Hoods, The Big HOO-HAA!, Melbourne International Comedy Festival) and a host of solo raconteurs, to kick off a new live storytelling series, taking place every Tuesday night in February, as part of The Blue Room Theatre's Summer Nights Program.

24 trained storytellers from an array of backgrounds, including comedians, journalists, lawyers and professional wrestlers, will tell true life tales, from the humorous to the perverse. This fresh night of storytelling launches an exciting new form of visual performance for Perth, and what promises to be a thriving storytelling culture.

As Gibbs explains,

"Storytelling is such a wonderful art because it is all about truth, and shared vulnerability. There are some really tender moments when a person is opening up about something painful or embarrassing in their lives. The culture is so big in New York, and I'm so excited to have Leitman to help us bring that to Perth."

The launch of Barefaced comes on the back of Barefaced's storytelling workshop series, run by Leitman, who runs workshops at The Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre, Ithaca College and the San Francisco Comedy College. Leitman's television appearances include Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Style Network, E!, Comedy Central and NBC Broadband.

Don't miss the inaugural performance of Perth's new underground storytelling night, Barefaced Stories is the first production of Barefaced, the fledgling co-production by Gibbs and Kerry O'Sullivan. Don't miss the inaugral performance of this, Perth's new underground storytelling night; head along to The Blue Room Theatre (53 James St, Northbridge) one (or every) Tuesday in February (3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th).
