Perth audiences will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Academy Award Winner Shaun Tan in July when Barking Gecko Theatre Company presents an adaptation of his book, The Red Tree.
"We are thrilled to hear of Shaun’s win today. Shaun’s talents are much deserving ofthe international attention this Oscar win will bring. We have been inspired by Shaun’s illustrations and storytelling as a company and feel honoured to have the opportunity to present The Red Tree in July," says John Sheedy, Artistic Director of Barking Gecko Theatre Company.
The Red Tree is a winner of the Patricia Wrightson prize in the NSW Premier's Book Awards. Barking Gecko's adaptation transports the audience to a strange world of peculiar creatures and dream-like landscapes where a young girl travels through her day, navigating the strange and unfamiliar, accompanied by a single red leaf - a reminder of hope and a symbol of the magical surprise awaiting her.
Barking Gecko will present The Red Tree in the July school holidays from the 12th – 23rd July at the Subiaco Arts Centre.
