Bell Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew

posted Tuesday, 28 Jul

Watch out boys, the girls are coming to town! The all female cast of Bell Shakespeare’s production of The Taming of the Shrew is touring regional New South Wales.

In August, they will be performing at the Albury Performing Arts Centre, Orange Civic Theatre, Joan Sutherland Centre, Penrith and Wagga Wagga Civic Theatres.

Bell’s arts educators are also along for the ride and will be holding auditions at each of these venues for the 2009 Regional Performance Scholarship.

This program aims to uncover the next generation of budding thespians and is designed specifically for students who live in regions outside of major cities who have limited access to live theatre. Bell Shakespeare has also been taking their work into more remote areas of New South Wales. Their Actors At Work team has flown to schools in locations including Wilcannia and Menindee. They were accompanied on their journey by a crew from ABC Arts so keep an eye out for the story!

In other scholarship news, twelve teachers from regional schools across the country will participate in the Regional Teacher Scholarship program this month. The participants will undertake intensive training with Bell Shakespeare in Sydney focussed on teaching Shakespeare. This year New South Wales teachers taking part in the program are from The Rock Central School and Emmaville Central School.
