Future Landings

Bunbury Grounded is an original contemporary dance work created and presented in Bunbury by professional choreographers in collaboration with nine young dancers from the area, age between 12 and 16 years. The work will be performed on site at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries (BRAG) as part of the Opening of the South Western Times Survey on February 12, 2011.

The performance is inspired by the contrast between the strongly religious and spiritual history of the BRAG site, and the unprecedented freedom of choice that is the lifestyle of the Generation Y performers.

To young people living in today’s ‘play list’ culture – “shuffle, skip, delete” – the structure, discipline and faith of generations past seems foreign and overly restrictive. But when the world is your oyster, where do you begin? How do you make your way?

Grounded is one of four new works created in four regional towns, as part of the Future Landings project developed by Ausdance WA as an outcome of the Future Moves initiative to vitalise contemporary dance in WA. Future Landings is supported by the Department of Culture and the Arts and Grounded has received additional support from the City of Bunbury.
