COME OUT Festival Calls for Pre-loved Pianos and (Currently loved) Volunteers

posted Wednesday, 1 Dec

Calling all piano owners, players, sellers and lovers! Your pre-loved and unused instruments are needed for an international public art project that will be part of COME OUT Festival 2011.

"In March next year we're aiming to bring the city alive with the sound of pianos, played by the public for the project, Play Me, I'm Yours. We're asking the public to donate their pre-loved or currently unused pianos to the project," explained Andy Packer, Creative Director of COME OUT Festival 2011.

Play Me, I'm Yours, is an artwork by British artist Luke Jerram who has been touring the project globally since 2008. For the COME OUT 2011 leg of the project, more than 20 pianos will be installed across the streets of Adelaide and metropolitan areas. Located in public parks, streets and squares, the pianos will be there for anyone to play and engage with, as each piano is adorned with the simple invitation 'Play Me, I'm Yours'.

"Approximately half of the pianos needed for the artwork have been sourced but having donations from the wider community will really add to the project's goals of encouraging connection and interaction amongst strangers," adds Mr Packer.

COME OUT would also like to hear from artists interested in painting the pianos once they hit the streets in March. For more information about the project visit the Adelaide Street Pianos website.

Along with pianos, the COME OUT Festival is now calling for volunteers to assist on events between 25 March and 1 April 2011. A number of opportunities are available, including Front of House, Information Personnel, Traffic Marshalls, Event and Information Volunteers and School Marshalls.

"Volunteering at COME OUT is a great opportunity to gain new skills and get involved in this iconic South Australian event," said Mr Packer.

"Without a dedicated group of volunteers we wouldn't be able to hold such a well regarded festival that provides so many new experiences for our young people."

If you have a piano you would like to donate, or you'd like to register your interest in
becoming a volunteer, contact Maggie Oster on (08) 8267 5766 or shoot her an email.
