Brisbane based company CONTACT Inc is presenting a new series of workshops for Common Ground, a dynamic Peace Building Hip Hop workshop program for young people aiming to generate understanding and dialogue within their community.
Common Ground aims to create a safe space for young people from culturally diverse backgrounds to meaningfully meet and use hip hop as a way of giving young people a voice and a form of expression. Hip hop becomes a common culture that the participants share and identify with.
The workshop process is designed and facilitated by the CONTACT Crew, a team of emerging arts practitioners who inspire dialogue around key themes such as leadership, wisdom, passion and change. The Contact Crew, from CONTACT Inc’s groundbreaking program Each One Teach One, coordinates and facilitates the youth led initiative in collaboration with experienced arts workers. The crew provide strong positive role models for the young participants and in turn are inspired by the arts workers.
The current workshops will explore the themes of pride, understanding and tradition and is running from September 8 to November 17 in Sunnybank, Brisbane. The workshop series will lead to a series of showcase performances of mad MCing, original songs and hard out dancing.
