CYT is responding to the needs of emerging and independent artists to learn about the process of how to get their own work into the theatre & to the public.
Excitingly CYT have formulated a series of workshops called the INDEPENDENT ARTIST SERIES, which is designed to teach emerging and independent artists how to survive in the industry – training them in the business and legal ends of producing theatre independently.
There are 3 programs on offer this semester and now with their new website, all enrolments can be completed online – its never been easier!
Show Me the Money: Grant Writing / Pitching & Selling Your Idea
This 6 week master class explores the different types of funding available to artists, including grants, donations, crowd-funding and philanthropy. The master class will assist participants to demystify the funding process, unpacking a variety of grant application requirements and analysing the common and specific needs of each application, in order to prepare candidates for preparing successful applications. Participants will also work individually with the tutor, formulating a strategic approach to pitching and selling their idea both in written and live forms. The master class will conclude with a live pitch to a panel of experts for an Artistic Residency.

It’s How Much? : The Art of Successfully Producing Independent Work
This 6 week master class is for the independent artist or collective who are ready to venture into producing a season of their own work.
This course will take participants through the principles and responsibilities of the Producer, including how to go about booking venues, securing artists, contracts, licence/royalities and copyright laws, marketing & promotion, budget management, capital and operating costs, wages and labour legislation (MEAA), OH&S requirements and the all important – getting bums on seats. There is a lot to think about, when stepping into the world of independent theatre – but you can do it. Going into the process with a solid grounding in the key areas will ensure you are primed for success, just make sure the production is good!

The Working Actor
The Working Actor will take participants through a 15 week process of preparing auditions for Acting jobs, Training Institutions (NIDA, VCA, WAAPA), Music Theatre auditions, Voice Over auditions and Film and TV screen tests – focusing on the different techniques required by the industry for each pathway.
