Canberra Youth Theatre is looking for the best and brightest emerging actors to audition for the 2010 CYT Actors Ensemble in February.

The CYT Actors Ensemble trains and rehearses every Saturday and is for 18-25’s who are passionate about developing core skills in acting and theatre making. The Ensemble provides a unique opportunity for young people in the ACT and assists those who may be preparing to undertake full time actor training in the future, by exploring and extending their creative boundaries as a performer, developing artistic discipline and building strong relationships with other local emerging artists. The Artistic Director, Karla Conway, runs the Actors Ensemble together with regular guest tutors who specialise in voice, movement, music and physical theatre.

Late last year the Canberra Youth Theatre Actors Ensemble wowed audiences with it’s critically acclaimed, sell out production of 'Tank', which played at Floriade and re-mounted with popular support at Garema Place. 'Tank' received outstanding reviews and is looking to tour for 2010/2011.

This year the Actors Ensemble will be actively engaged in the development and performance of Canberra Youth Theatre’s major site-specific original production, 'Retrieval'.

'Retrieval' is a hybrid, art installation performance that will take the audience on a weaving journey deep into the stack of the National Library. It will be an expedition into our collective past – it is a maze of the stories of humanity. Stories of the mundane and of great profundity are deposited there hoping one day to be retrieved – to be read – to be heard – to be of use – to make a difference. History repeats itself when stories are heard and not heeded. 'Retrieval' challenges us to look back in order to look forward.

The CYT Actors Ensemble will perform 'Retrieval' in 2010, at the National Library of Australia. In this, the International Year of Youth we are taking ownership of our destiny by ensuring the mistakes of the past are not doomed to follow us into the future.

This project is timely and artistically challenging and will provide audiences with an innovative and joyful way to engage with issues facing everyone in the future.

Auditions for the CYT Actors Ensemble will be held on Saturday 27 February. Applications for the Auditions close on Tuesday 23 February.
