Calling all local artists!

posted Wednesday, 1 Sep

Imagine going for a dip at the State Aquatic Centre and seeing your doodles on the wall; or emerging from the doctor's office down at Oaklands, all sniffly and sorry for yourself, and being greeted by something pretty you created.

Well imagine no longer, because the State Government are giving you the opportunity to do just that. They're calling for Expressions of Interest for the creation of art works and integrated artistic elements in the outdoor community plaza between the SAC and GP Plus buildings (translation: pretty pictures on the buildings).

Artists are invited to submit for one or more of the following components:

* Part A - building art and design (artistic treatment for external walls of the SAC building and external lift well tower)
* Part B - functional pieces (public seats, pavement treatments, bicycle racks, bins, external way-finding signage and more)
* Part C - stand-alone artwork(s) in the central plaza.

The budget for the three components of this public art opportunity is approximately $350,000 and the work is to be complete by 31 October 2011.

Sound like your cup of tea? Download an Expression of Interest brief here and head to the SA Government's Infrastructure website for a truckload of useful appendices (samples of bicycle racks and tree grates; urban design framework; design proposals - you name it, they have it).

EOI's are to be submitted no later than 5pm on 30 September 2010 and must include 5 copies of all written documents.

But wait: there's more! (No steak knives I promise)

SA Health is calling for Expressions of Interest from artists' teams interested in the opportunity to work in collaboration with architects Swanbury Penglase for the delivery of stand alone art works and integrated artistic elements for the Glenside Campus Redevelopment Health Facilities (Precinct 1) at Glenside, SA.

The new Health Facility Buildings, surrounding open space (shared gardens and landscaped buffers) and internal gardens, Village Green, community park and roads reserves will all be getting arty makeovers. Artists' responses will need to be informed by the following themes:

Urban Setting
Location History (Kaurna and European)
Natural Environment
ESD approach
Community and Culture

The Glenside Campus has a whole stack of historical material which artists are welcome to access for inspiration for their proposals.

Artist teams with experience, insight or interest in mental health or drug/alcohol related conditions are particularly encouraged to apply.

A fee of $5000 is available to each of the three artists' teams selected to develop concept designs.

EOI's for the Glenside Campus Public Art project are to be submitted by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 6 October 2010, and must include seven copies of all relevant material. For the full brief, contact Tim Conybeare or Sue Lorraine.

How's that: not one but three opportunities to see your talents gracing the walls of South Australian institutions!

Submissions for both projects should be addressed to:

Sue Lorraine, Arts Development Officer
Arts SA
110 Hindley Street
Adelaide SA 5000

For further information, please contact Arts SA on (08) 8463 5447 or email Sue.
