posted Friday, 30 Sep

You will be aware that Carclew Youth Arts, South Australia’s peak youth arts organisation, has decided it is unable to continue providing the national project “Lowdown” as it no longer fits within Carclew’s core business.

Carclew has endeavoured to find Lowdown a new home, however research and negotiations have not identified another organisation with the capacity to support this national project in the current climate.

Whilst Lowdown is coming to a close, the many years of reviews and articles will live on through a project dedicated to recording and cataloguing the content of back editions of the print magazine which was the precursor to Lowdown Online. You will be able to keep up to date with this project at www.carclew.org.au over the coming months.

This will be sorely missed.

Lowdown has been an important part of the national fabric of performing arts for a long time. It has challenged, supported and discussed youth arts in a unique way in this country,( if not the world) and has been part of the reason that the rest of the country looks at South Australias youth arts so admiringly.
I join the many who hope that a new way for it to continue, in whatever format it needs to to survive, happens.

I loved reading my hard copy Lowdown and have been really impressed with the transition to digital format. Nowhere else is there so much information celebrating our youth arts sector in such a vibrant way.
Congratulations to all involved and I hope you find a new home

Such a shame that things that are great and successful initiatives suddenly have the rug pulled. Arts funding constantly means that the industry is teetering, arts that involves young people even more so. sincerely hope that negotiations around Lowdown prove successful.
