Call for Expressions of Interest to deliver youth performing arts activities in Adelaide’s Southern Area

posted Friday, 1 Apr

Carclew Youth Arts is seeking expressions of interest from South Australian–based artists or arts organisations in curating and delivering a program of youth performing arts activities in Adelaide’s Southern area for the period July 2011 to December 2012.

Between November 2010 and March 2011 the Board of Carclew Youth Arts commissioned a review of youth performing arts delivery options in the Southern area of Adelaide. As a result of this, the Board has opted to go forward with a model of youth performing arts delivery in the form of a Creative Producer(s), who will broker a number of projects in the Southern area. The Creative Producer(s) will drive a coherent vision of contemporary youth performing arts practice through several variously-scaled projects which operate in various places throughout the area.

The Creative Producer(s) will be responsible for:

  • generating project ideas in close collaboration with local stakeholders
  • Responding to project ideas from the community
  • Developing discrete funding strategies for each project
  • Gathering artistic teams to deliver projects
  • Developing a network of activities, projects and events, linked philosophically and conceptually.

They will achieve this by:

  • Applying a curatorial approach to program development based on a ground-up focus. This may, for example, result in „buying in? artistic approaches which serve a particular aesthetic or purpose identified by community
  • Embracing a broad cultural development and capacity-building ethos, and drawing on a range of art forms
  • Being cultural thinkers and brokers of ideas, with the capacity to ask the question: what does youth arts practice look like in the second decade of the 21st century? (Their own artistic practice, if any, may not necessarily be part of activities).

This is the first stage of a two-stage process, in which this call for brief expressions of interest will lead to the selection of applicants invited to tender a fully developed program proposal.

The successful applicant will be expected to start their contract in July 2011 and to deliver an appropriately scaled program of arts activity between July and December 2011 which incorporates consultation and leads to a fuller program of activities throughout 2012.
