This 12-month opportunity, commencing in April, will provide the selected participant with on- and off-the-job training in arts administration – a specialty that’s growing and in high demand.
"There is certainly an increasing demand for arts administrators across the state. That’s why Carclew Youth Arts has teamed with BHP Billiton to provide an Arts Administration Traineeship which is giving local youth an opportunity to break into the industry," said Georgie Davill, Carclew’s Program Manager – Industry Development.
“The successful applicant will have a demonstrated understanding of issues facing Indigenous communities and cultures or a keen interest in working with the people of these communities to develop that knowledge.
"A career in arts administration is no longer something you can just drift into so this traineeship aims to provide young people who are interested in career pathways within the creative arts industry with training, genuine on-the-job experience and network knowledge.
"The program is currently the only entry pathway into arts administration in South Australia without doing a degree, and it’s a very practical and skills based way to kick start a career."
Applications for the Carclew Youth Arts BHP Billiton Arts Administration Traineeship open on Friday, March 4 and close on Friday, March 18 2011.
At completion, the graduate will receive a TAFE Certificate III in Business Administration (Arts), which is recognised nationally.
