Advanced Screening 2010

posted Saturday, 1 May

On Sunday the 2nd of May, Markwell Presents held auditions at the Brisbane Powerhouse for their new production of Advanced Screening 2010. Over 150 high school students from South East Queensland turned up to give their best shot at becoming part of the ensemble cast of 10 principle roles.

It is with great pleasure they announce the principle cast members for Advanced Screening 2010:

Jawal Andry from Redcliffe, Rachel Baskerville from Bridgeman Downs, Elizabeth Dennis from Kenmore, Myles McGuire from Middle Park, Josh Robinson from Clontarf, Megan Smart from Carindale, Whitney Stacey from Ascot, Elissa Stewart from Sinnamon Park, Marcus Vanco from Ashgrove, Carolyn Williams from Bellbowrie.

Over the next 10 weeks these ten talented young actors will receive valuable real world experience in rehearsal techniques, live performance and film performance as they prepare to present a two-week season at the Visy Theatre in July. Another 20 auditionees have been chosen to participate in the green screen film shoot as extras, gaining great film experience and an opportunity to see themselves on the big screen.

Advanced Screening 2010 is a romantic comedy/drama written specifically for teenagers and their families about the problems that arise when young inexperienced people are in serious relationships.

The narrative is a fast-paced episode-based story revolving around a group of friends in year 12 on the verge of finishing school and dealing with the minefield of the future and their relationships after school.

Markwell Presents specialise in Cinematic Theatre for young people?, an exciting fusion of live stage performance and the magic of the big screen. The cinematic sequences in Advanced Screening 2010 will feature computer generated 3D landscapes as the audiences fly through the school from location to location projected onto a large screen that fills the rear of the Visy Theatre stage.

Artistic Director Brad Jennings and Creative Producer Steven Maxwell are the creatives behind Markwell Presents and have been working together producing new work for and with young people since 2002. They have also been working as artists in residence on more than 40 secondary school projects around Queensland.

“With Advanced Screening 2010 we want to present a live performance for young people that takes the best of both theatre and cinema to create an exciting, relevant and inspiring experience,” Steven says.

“Every time we work with young people and Advanced Screening they instantly identify with the characters and the situations they are facing."

“This is a unique experience for our young cast to work with a professional company, in a marquee venue,” Brad says “previous participants in earlier versions of this work have gone on to study at NIDA and QUT, worked with QTC and ABC, and others have become drama teachers.”
