Canberra Youth Theatre prepares for the Australian Premiere of Cockroach.
Call out for auditions were distributed nationally for the play.
Cockroach, written by Sam Holcroft, is a damning exploration of the need for resilience and adaptation in young people, striking Darwin's theory of evolution straight into the heart of a group of high school students, trapped in an after school biology detention class - a microcosm of the long and bloody war happening outside the school walls.
This play is described as dark, uplifting, confronting and funny and will require actors who are open minded willing to work intensively and willing to take risks.
Susccesful emerging artists will spend an intensive week of full time exploration and rehearsal in January followed by regular rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday day rehearsals.
Canberra Youth theatre believe the production will be the Australian Premiere and have the capacity to tour the ACT and beyond.
Auditions were held Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 January. Artist were asked to prepare a two minute contemporary monologue from a published play + group audition.
Stay tuned to hear who will play Lee the hardened teen, Leah's boyfriend and some anger management issues, or Davey the class clown, smart, quietly serious and mad about Danielle.
Performance season is scheduled for March 10 to 13.
