Deckchair Theatre launched the Umbrella Program to assist local artists to present dynamic new theatrical works that are a little outside the ordinary, at Victoria Hall.
Deckchair has developed an inventive programme to support independent performing arts organisations to present work at Victoria Hall by providing administrative, production and artistic assistance.
‘The project is a vital means of creating and maintaining a vibrant and artistic hub in Fremantle and providing a supportive platform for a range of inventive and diverse performances,’ said Chris Bendall, Artistic Director, Deckchair Theatre
Deckchair’s first Umbrella season features three new works from two original and highly innovative independent theatre companies. Corazon de Vaca presented The Bridging Project in August and September. This performance aimed to bridge cultural and linguistic divides through the universal languages of movement and visual imagery and speak to anyone who has ever migrated, even if only from their own comfort zone.
In another vein altogether, Longwood Productions presents two one-act plays from the dark and slightly twisted mind of Damon Lockwood. Forget Me Not & Refractions is a double bill that veers away from the expected – a man with a thirty-second memory and an unfaithful married man with a mirror reflection that refuses to follow him. Directed by Mark Storen and featuring Filippo Gioffre, James Helm, Talei Howell-Price, Mischa Ipp, Chris Issacs, Sam Longley, Matt Longman and Don Smith, Forget Me Not & Refractions runs October 27 to November 6 at Victoria Hall, Fremantle.
