Deckchair Theatre was successful in its grant application to the Australia Council, and will receive triennial funding from 2010 through its Emerging Key Organisations category. Deckchair Theatre was one of only six organisations nationwide, and the only Western Australian organisation, to be successful in this category.
“We’re very excited that our programme of promoting new Australian text based work, and providing opportunities for emerging artists and writers, has been recognised to be of national significance,” said Gayle Cargill, General Manager of Deckchair Theatre.
For the past 26 years, Deckchair Theatre has created over 80 new critically acclaimed works in their home city of Fremantle. They present new theatre that tells stories about our society, our environment and our heritage and reflects the world we live in today.
This year Deckchair Theatre has been nominated for three Equity Guild awards — Best Production and Best Play for Krakouer and Best Director for Checklist for an Armed Robber.
