Express Media are all abuzz

posted Sunday, 1 Aug

For the 14th year running, Express Media will be holding its successful Buzzcuts Arts Review program during the 2010 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Buzzcuts is a chance for young writers and broadcasters to receive invaluable training and experience in critical arts reviewing, with support from the Melbourne Fringe Festival, 3RRR, SYN, Beat Magazine and RMIT.

Successful applicants are given the chance to see several Fringe shows of their choice, write reviews and see them published on the Buzzcuts website. The best reviews will be published weekly throughout the Melbourne Fringe Festival in Beat Magazine. Buzzcutters will also be trained in writing critical arts reviews at a free workshop.

The program is open to writers aged 18-25 who are keen to develop their skills as arts writers.?Participants are expected to attend at least two shows during the Melbourne Fringe Festival (September 22 to October 10) and to produce two accompanying reviews. In addition, participants are required to attend the compulsory skills workshop to be held on a Sunday in late August/early September (date to be confirmed but most likely August 29).

So let's recap: watch your favourite Melbourne Fringe shows for free; gain invaluable training in critical arts writing; and see your reviews published on the Interwebs and maybe even in shiny street-press goodness.

To apply, you need to outline why you would like to be involved and any relevant experience you have. Please also include your name, address, date of birth, email and phone number.

Applications are due by COB Monday, August 23 and should be emailed to Siobhan Argent.

But wait: there's more! Express Media are also on the hunt for a Communications Intern to undertake publicity and marketing activities for Express Media.

This volunteer position is for the equivalent of one day per week for up to twelve months, with actual days and hours to be negotiated, and is located at Express Media’s offices in the Wheeler Centre, Melbourne.
