Express Media is calling for applications for Write in Your Face 2011. A program funded by the Literature Board of the Australia Council, Write in Your Face supports young writers using language innovatively across a range of forms and genres.

"We're really excited to be able to offer this opportunity' says Express Media's Program Manager Lefa Singleton Norton. 'There were so many amazing projects funded last year, and we know there are plenty more out there. This is a unique opportunity for truly interesting and engaging new forms of writing to find the support they need’.

Last year’s recipients included: Pip Smith from Penguin Plays Rough who put together a multimedia anthology of the best short stories by new and emerging writers which have been performed at Penguin Plays Rough since its inception in December 2008; Jenny Rixon from Eastlake Youth Centre who created a zine with young people to highlight the positive aspects of the local youth in the community; Tahli Tyler who collaborated with sound designer Rosie Chase to create a narrative based storyscape entitled What Do Nightmares Sound Like? and Clementine Ford who created an exhibition and website of digital stories concerning Australian girls and women and their lives.

Express Media invites proposals from young writers who are using language in innovative ways. This may involve writing for zines, e-zines, transmedia, comics, multimedia, multi-artforms or cross-media works, websites, live performance and spoken word. Collaborative and multimedia projects are strongly encouraged.

Recipients will be selected using the following criteria – innovation, potential to advance the artistic development or expression of young writers and evidence that the project is well-planned and achievable. You may apply for up to $5000 but must be aged 30 years or younger (or work with people 30 years or younger) at the time of application to be eligible.

Applications close 30th May 2011. Decisions will be advised June 2011.

For more information please email Lefa Singleton Norton or visit the website to download an application form.
