Urban Myth Theatre of Youth have plenty to keep your mind off the wintry chill this June.
Out of the Boot - Freedom
With a theme of 'freedom', this year sees directing mentors Glenn Hayden and Simone Avramidis working with 3 emerging directors. Two ensembles of 13 actors from 14 to 17 yrs of age will present two half-hour plays at Holden Street Theatres, Hindmarsh.
Now in it's fifth season, 'Out of the Boot' is a program that Urban Myth is extremely excited about and has committed to produce on an annual basis. Out of the Boot is designed to encourage, support and nourish young artists through a series of mentorships.
The two plays being presented are:
I AM the Messiah by A.P.R. Skewes
Directed by Isabelle Danforth-Smith and Guy O'Grady
Game shows are everywhere on out televisions and I Am The Messiah is one of the best. Now in its 50th year on air, contestants search for meaning and power at the mercy of the infamous Mr. Maxine Deville and the illustrious Ms Sexy. This is reality TV at its deadliest. Come down and play…if you’re feeling lucky!
Industrial Park by Casey Nicholls
Directed by David Hurst, assisted by Sharen Scott
A chance to take a step out of your comfort zone and witness some of the other issues affecting the society around you. Industrial Park is the story of what can happen when your intended salvation is the very thing that can rip you apart.
When a street kid (Latu) joins a gang headed by a crazed leader (Kaine) to get a much missed sense of family she gets much more then she has bargained for. Her first mission is to ram-raid a chemist in search of drugs and chaos quickly follows. It's not until everything spins out of control do these characters take the time to step back and question the path they have chosen. This is your opportunity to see five young actors give their all to a text that demands everything they have and more.
