Hey London! Polyglot built this city

They didn't build the city on rock'n'roll, but the hats sure look good.

In perhaps the biggest tour announcement in their 32-year history, Polyglot are excited to announce that their acclaimed work We Built This City will be performed at the prestigious Royal National Theatre, London, as part of the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT).

The London performance is a four-way partnership between Polyglot, the National Theatre's Watch This Space program, LIFT, and the London Festival of Architecture. The tour will also travel across the UK and Ireland, reaching the Macrobert Centre (Stirling, Scotland), Draiocht Arts Centre (Dublin, Ireland) and the Lakes Alive Festival in Carlisle, England as part of the cultural program for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Polyglot's Executive Producer, Simon Abrahams, will also speak as part of a panel discussion (Theatre for Young People: An International Perspective) at the Institute for Contemporary Arts, London, and the cast of We Built This City will also work with disadvantaged children from a school in Canning Town, as part of the National Theatre's access program, replicating the community development work which Polyglot does at home.

This tour is an enormous milestone for Polyglot, and their eighth international tour in two years. The team are thrilled that the world's leading arts centres - from Washington's Kennedy Centre, to the National Theatre of Korea, to the Royal National Theatre in London - are discovering what Australia has known for 32 years: that Polyglot's world class performances can ignite every child's imagination, regardless of their circumstances.

Polyglot's international demand has skyrocketed. Next week, they tour to Seoul, performing at the National Theatre of Korea and Nowon Theatre, with productions Tooth & Claw and Check Out! (which won the Excellent Production Award at the 2009 Shanghai International Children's Theatre Festival). Check Out! will also tour to the Hong Kong International Arts Carnival in August. In September and October, Polyglot will premiere a new street theatre work in Shanghai.

Those at home won't miss out - in the same week as the London season, Polyglot will be performing their classic work Muckheap here in Melbourne, with plans for many other performances and workshops around Australia in the pipeline. The theatre company are also continuing to develop new work City of Riddles throughout 2010.

The Lowdown team would like to congratulate Polyglot on their latest tour announcement, and can't wait to hear all the exciting stories from London town!
