Come to a weekend of discussions, thoughts, big pictures, commonalities and differences. The 2010 forum will be a chance to discuss the past, current and future of South Australia's theatre, dance and performance environment with your peers and wider industry (in case you don't get to chat enough during the working week).
Over three days, led by Arts Producer Angharad Wynne-Jones and using an Open Space facilitation process, this unique opportunity will allow participants to determine:
- Issues facing independent theatre makers;
- Documentation and articulation of the sector's ideas and real outcomes;
- New ways of information sharing and networking;
- Better advocacy, debate and development within the sector;
- Ideas for engagement with more diverse audiences.
- Plus many more ideas, thoughts and issues, as yet undiscovered by you!
(And with any luck, there'll be biscuits too).
In May 2009, Melbourne's Arts House Meat Market hosted a unique gathering of Australia's theatre practitioners, producers, presenters and commentators that came together to explore the urgent issues of our time and imagine possible futures for the Australian theatre sector. That forum was the first time in over 20 years that the Australian theatre sector had come together in such a way.
Following the success of the 2009 Australian Theatre Forum, Carclew Youth Arts, Country Arts SA, Arts Industry Council of SA, and Arts SA are collaborating to create a space and an opportunity where the arts sector can come together. The forum will represent diverse independent and major organisation arts practices and networks. With an understanding of performance in its wide variety of forms, questions will be raised and solutions sought to our perceptions surrounding contemporary performance.
The South Australian forum will be an opportunity to feed into the next National Theatre Forum, held in Brisbane in September 2011.
The forum will be run over three days, so come along to one or all. Friday, November 19, 5-8pm will see a Big Picture Panel discussion hosted by Arts Industry Council SA. Saturday, November 20, 10am to 5pm will look at the history of South Australian performance and conduct an 'Open Space' technology session with the over-arching question: "Creating SA's distinctive performance culture - what do we really want and how can we make it happen?" Last but not least, Sunday, November 21, 10am to 2pm will be a continuation of the 'Open Space' discussion and include a wrap-up.
The event is hosted at Carclew Youth Arts (11 Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide) and it costs nothing but your time and willingness (which some would argue is priceless, but we'll ignore them for the moment)
All sessions include catering (biscuits, hooray!) Childcare can be arranged but Carclew needs registration by Friday, November 5 for confirmation. For more information and to register, please email Astrid at Carclew.
