Auditions for St Martins' Performers and Creative Ensembles are happening throughout February, and they want you!

Auditionees for the Performers Ensemble need to prepare a 1-2 min monologue (contemporary or Shakespeare).

To give yourself the best chance, please…

* choose a piece that is around your age
* choose a piece in which you connect to or understand the character and/or circumstances of the text
* do not present your piece with an accent
* do not present self devised work

As well as your monologue St Martins ask you to present a 30 second to 1 minute special talent. A special talent shows how unique you are and that you can have a bit of a laugh at yourself. This can be anything you like, a song, a dance, an impersonation or a party trick!

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

* a recent photo and a performance CV
* wear loose comfortable clothing
* leave the heavy jewellery and make up at home

You must be over 18 to audition. Auditions are held in groups in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Need to find a monologue? Most bookstores have monologue compilation books; ones by Dean Carey are worth investing in. The major drama schools release monologue booklets for their audition seasons like www.nida.edu.au. You can also try The Australian Script Centre (www.ozscript.org) for new Australian works. In addition, St Martins have a number of monologue books and plays in their office, which you are welcome to come in and read.

Those wishing to join the St Martins Creative Ensemble should prepare the beginning of a theatrical idea.

The idea could be anything and could be any shape or size. It could be:

* visual (a photograph, painting, design, particular font type that makes you want to create something)
* or written (a play, a story, a poem, a monologue)
* or aural (a song or piece of music)
* or kinesthetic (use of gesture, a movement piece)
* or a combination of all of these things.

To help with this, St Martins will be offering auditionees tours of the venues before the audition so you can think creatively about a performance space. But just to get you thinking performance spaces could include:

* The Church Hall
* The Church Hall yard
* Under the peppercorn tree
* The dressing rooms
* The toilets
* The kiosk
* The courtyard
* The auditorium of the Randall Theatre
* The pit

Audition pieces must be no more than five minutes long and can be presented or performed. The audition must provide a snapshot of the work you would like to make and why and where you would like to position it at St Martins.
