Glen Street Theatre’s children and family programme, KidsPlay, opens the 2010 season presenting the World Premiere of Rhythm Safari on Tuesday 13 April at 6pm. Rhythm Safari, an interactive musical show for children and their families, was written exclusively for KidsPlay.
Rhythm Safari is a musical journey around the globe, where the audience becomes part of the show. A visual and sensory celebration, the stage features an expert ensemble of percussionists, musicians and singers playing original Contemporary and World Music.
Your Rhythm Safari adventure begins with African Musician, Sibo, who will introduce you to his world when he hears a call from his ancestors to “listen to your heart”. Follow Sibo as he leaves Africa and experiences the beats of Spain, Asia, the Caribbean and Brazil, culminating in his return home.
You can choose to join Sibo by playing your own drum and groove tubes, or just sit back and immerse yourself in the show. Rhythm Safari is an uplifting musical sensation that invites us all to listen to our hearts and follow our dreams.
“I am delighted our KidsPlay programme opens with such a high calibre show [Rhythm Safari] that has been written especially for the KidsPlay programme.
“KidsPlay 2010 continues to support the community with three free festival events [KidsPlay launch at Dee Why Beach, Festival of Children’s Literature and Working Title Words] that the whole family can attend and enjoy,” says Rob Robertson Director, Glen Street Theatre.
Glen Street Theatre’s 2010 KidsPlay programme will consist of: dance, story-telling (writing/play-building), comedy, theatre and interactive visual arts and theatre workshops. This will include new and continuing relationships with: NIDA, ATYP (Australian Theatre for Young People), Sydney Writers Festival, Sydney Children’s Festival and professional main-stage touring shows The Gruffalo, FOX, Rhythm Safari and Gran’s Bag.
