Applications are now open to take part in the Makhampom Study Tour, running from June 18 - July 4, 2011.

The Makhampom Study Tour is a unique introduction to community theatre through an integrated program of training, exchange, field experience, and performance practice with the Makhampom Theatre Group.

The 18-day program will bring together students, educators, community workers and theatre practitioners in a cross-cultural exchange, including an intake of Charles Sturt University Theatre Media students on assignment, 2 Southeast Asian internees, and 5-7 Makhampom volunteers.

The group will play, train, discuss, research, devise, exchange, and perform together in an experiential process of exploring theatre for community cultural development: from community theatre to conflict resolution; from creative literacy education to community engagement. And the Study Tour is also a lot of fun...

The Tour program includes:

  • Four-days of Theatre for Community Cultural Development training.
  • Three-days of performance devising process
  • Two-day homestay and exchange program with Makhampom's partner hilltribe communities
  • Two-day theatre tour to villages in Chiang Dao
  • An opportunity to lead an intensive workshop for Chiang Dao youth theatre groups
  • Participate in a Children's Day event at the Living Theatre
  • Story telling for primary school children with the Makhampom Book Bike (mobile library)
  • A process of intercultural performance making and community performance
  • An opportunity to experience a program of visits and sightseeing in Chiang Dao and Chiang Mai
  • A copy of Makhampom’s publication 'Art of Peace', video documentary, and t-shirt.

The Makhampom Study Tour is suited to students, educators, community workers and theatre practitioners involved or interested in theatre for development, community-based work, creative education, cross-cultural arts, conflict resolution and peace education, and cultural studies.

The Tour costs $2,500 ($2,000 for a student concession), which includes all activities, food, accommodation, internal travel, training materials and sightseeing.
