The year continues to move at an incredibly fast pace for NSW based youth theatre company Monkey Baa Theatre - there in shock that June is upon us!!
Monkey Baa has been madly at work on two new productions; Emily Eyefinger adapted from Duncan Ball's popular series and Goodbye Jamie Boyd, the moving verse novel by Elizabeth Fensham, in collaboration with WA's Buzz Dance Theatre.
They've been to Darwin, Dubbo, Wagga, Griffith and Albury with our many workshop programs and are still working on the International tour of Hitler's Daughter and are also proud to announce that their adaptation of Sonya Hartnett's Thursday's Child has now been published by Currency Press.
Production Updates
Emily Eyefinger is part of the 2011 Productions at the Seymour Centre. Pre-production is well on its way and design is almost complete wiht rehearsals taking place on 6th June. Emily Eyefinger opens Saturday 9th July. The cast includes Douglas Hansell, Christopher Childs-Maidment, Sandra Eldridge, Tim McGarry and Dannielle Jackson in the title role of Emily.
Emily Eyefinger is the story of an adventurous heroine, Emily, who was born with an extraordinary gift, an eye on the end of her finger. A lighthearted work, Emily Eyefinger explores the themes of identity, respect, self-worth and friendship. (Ages 5+)

I Am Jack has a special school season. This excellent one man show explores the often overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding to this topic. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor. I Am Jack runs from 26th October- 4th November.

The first Creative Development phase on this extraordinary story, Goodbye Jamie Boyd has just been completed. Monkey Baa and Buzz Dance Theatre, under the clear and concise dramaturgy of Josh Tyler have spent a week collaborating and developing ideas and form. They team had the privilege of meeting with a member of headspace – the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, who provided valuable feedback on the mental health issues raised in the story.
Monkey Baa and Buzz Dance Theatre will meet again in November to continue their exciting development.
The novel tells the story of Anna and her struggle with schizophrenia and self-harm, exacerbated by her use of "weed" to self-medicate. The play will premiere at the Seymour Centre in July 2012 targeting the teenage demographic.
