More music in schools

posted Saturday, 1 Aug

Music Play For Life continues to assist school children around the country to access music education and instruments. Through the generosity of a sponsor they recently coordinated the delivery of recorders to Kandos Public School in NSW, Alawa Primary in the NT and East Victoria Park Primary School in WA.

Meanwhile, school music education got a ‘boost’ when Pink’s touring drummer Mark Schulman, who also performed on the soundtrack to the Jack Black movie School of Rock, took time out to speak to students at Mackellar Girls High in Sydney as a guest of the Boost Mobile Rock the Schools program.

Shulman said, ‘I am on a crusade to increase awareness about the importance of performing arts in schools…there is statistical proof that kids score better on math and language tests when they play a musical instrument.’
