Lowdown is thrilled to congratulate Arena Theatre Company for their announcement that Moth has received three industry awards at the 2010 Green Room Awards held at the Famous Spiegeltent on Monday, 21 March 2011. A round of applause must go to playwright Declan Greene who was awarded the Best New Original Writing for the Melbourne Stage; Jethro Woodward who took home Best Sound / Composition awards for Moth (and a second award for his work on Irony is not Enough by Fragment 31 in the Independent Theatre category); and Rachel Burke who was recognized for Best Lighting Design for Moth.

An Arena Theatre Company and Malthouse Theatre co-commission, Moth premiered in May 2010 and there has been no end to its success! It enjoyed a sold-out season at the CUB Malthouse before transferring to the Sydney Opera House in July. This latest round of awards builds upon the recognition the production has received, including being shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award and the winner of the Malcolm Robertson Prize in 2010.

“Big congratulations to Declan, Jethro and Rachel for their awards, especially given the high quality of their fellow nominees. These awards are a fitting testament to Arena's work in commissioning brave new writing and maintaining top-notch production design - two priorities we take very seriously in creating work of the highest quality for our young audiences. A special thank you to our partner Malthouse Theatre for their vital role in making these achievements possible”. – Chris Kohn, Artistic Director

Also a thumbs up to the other 2010 Green Room Awards nominees including Chris Kohn (Best Director - Moth), Sarah Ogden (Best Female Actor - Moth) and Dylan Young (Best Male Actor - Moth).

Thomas Conroy won Best Male Performer in the Independent Theatre Category for Something Natural But Very Childish by Dirty Pretty Theatre and La Mama. Conroy will be seen in the upcoming return Melbourne season of Moth in the role of Sebastian, alongside Sarah Ogden who is reprising her role as Claryssa.

If you missed it the first time, don't make that mistake again. Moth will return to the CUB Malthouse from June 15 - June 25, 2011. For bookings, please visit the Malthouse Theatre Box Office.
