Arena Theatre Company is delighted to announce that Moth has been nominated for 7 Green Room Awards. The 2010 Nominations for Melbourne’s most prestigious performing arts awards were announced on Tuesday, 15 February, 2011, with the winners declared at an industry ceremony in March. Moth is the only work specifically created for young audiences to receive this level of recognition at this years awards.

“2010 has been widely reported as a strong year for Melbourne theatre, so we are especially pleased with the nominations for Moth. Making and presenting works from the ground up for young audiences is a complex and risky business; recognition such as this helps us demonstrate to our supporters that the effort is worthwhile.”Chris Kohn, Artistic Director.

These nominations are the latest in a series of accolades for this new Australian work for audiences aged 15 and above. Moth performed to sell-out houses and critical acclaim; won 26-year old playwright Declan Greene the 2010 Malcolm Robertson Prize and a nomination for the Louis Esson Prize for Drama in the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.

  • Best New Original Writing for the Melbourne Stage (Declan Greene)
  • Best Director (Chris Kohn)
  • Best Female Actor (Sarah Ogden)
  • Best Male Actor (Dylan Young)
  • Lighting Design (Rachel Burke)
  • Sound / Composition (Jethro Woodward)

The scope of these nominations reflect Arena’s ongoing commitment to create authentic, engaging works for young audiences. Moth is Arena’s third co-production with Malthouse Theatre and enjoyed its world premiere in May 2010 at the CUB Malthouse before touring to the Sydney Opera House in July. In 2011, the production will enjoy a return season at the Malthouse in June before touring interstate. Full details can be found at Arena's website.
