Carclew Youth Arts is calling for South Australia's young musicians and aspiring event managers to join its Off the Couch team for 2011.
Applications for the next season of Off the Couch have just opened, giving South Australia's emerging bands, musicians and event managers the opportunity to be a part of this successful program.
"Off the Couch connects young people with industry professionals for hands-on learning and networking opportunities," said Off the Couch Coordinator, Drew Landt.
"We're now looking for musicians and up-and-coming event coordinators, aged 12-26, to be part of next year's event."
More than 700 bands and musicians have pounded the boards at Off the Couch events in the past 15 years, showcasing to a total audience of more than 70,000 at some of Adelaide's most popular venues.
"When the Off the Couch program was originally created the intention was to address the lack of performance and development opportunities for young musicians in SA and there's no doubt that the need is as vital today as it was when the program started," Drew said.
"In fact, it's getting bigger and bigger. The 2010 Off the Couch program drew record participant numbers and the event's six performances also attracted the strongest crowds in the program's history."
The program includes 'behind the scenes' skills training for teams of emerging event coordinators who undertake a 24-week professional development program, offering tricks of the trade from industry professionals.
"These teams of young people then steer and program six live music events – looking after everything from creative, administration, production, promotion and logistics," Drew explained.
"The program is also a great chance for emerging artists and bands from all genres to cut their teeth in the live music industry in a supportive environment."
Applications for the Off The Couch Events team close Wednesday, January 19; while applications for bands and musicians close Wednesday, February 9. All music genres are invited to apply, but applications are essential, so get cracking!
