After two years of development, Patch Theatre Company’s latest work Me and My Shadow will premiere on May 17.
A beautiful and gentle production, it tells the tale of a young girl who finds a way to be friends with her shadow. Designed to ignite the imaginations of 4-8 year olds, Me and My Shadow blends fantastical imagery, eye-catching physical performances and magical lighting to expand children’s imaginations into the reality of time and space.
Children and adults alike, can expect to enter into a tiny world of giant creatures and step into an enchanting and poignant story of expectation, happiness, loneliness and friendship.
“It’s been a long process – it always is – and we’re all very happy with the result,”
said Patch’s Artistic Director Dave Brown.“Me and My Shadow has come about from playing and exploring. Building the show on the theatre floor gives it an unpredictable and poetic quality.
”You could never sit down and write this sort of work, and that’s where the joy is
for the creators and the audience.”
Using physical-image, light, shadow, colour, paper, water, music and sound, Me and My Shadow is yet another magical production which will become a fixture in Patch’s outstanding repertoire.
Me and My Shadow is the result of more than two years of creative development involving Australia’s foremost image-theatre exponents, Geoff Cobham and Roz Hervey, Artistic Director Dave Brown, performer/theatre-makers Astrid Pill and Nathan O’Keefe, and composer Zoë Barry who has created an enchanting score.
“The performance has a beautiful, old fashioned quality and I wanted the music to reflect this. My inspirations were eclectic - the piano scores that accompany old silent films, the music of Mark Linkus, and a 19th century Austrian music-box called The Emerald Polyphon,” Zoe said.
Patch Theatre is one of Australia’s foremost children’s theatre company, producing professional theatre for 4-8 year old children and their families. With more than a 30 year history of excellence, Patch has developed a sterling international reputation and regularly tours overseas to countries including New Zealand, the US, Canada, Japan and Korea.
