Play Time for Young Theatre-Makers

posted Wednesday, 1 Sep

Queensland Theatre Company and Backbone Youth Arts are co-producing the first annual Youth Partners Residency – one week, 28 young theatre makers and three industry professionals all converge in the Bille Brown Studio with the directive to create new, boundary breaking theatre.

“This is the first time we’ve run a project like this and we’re keen to see what these talented young artists create," said Joseph Mitchell, Youth & Education Manager.

"We’ve selected participants from Backbone Youth Arts and university theatre organisations and secured some great artists to help guide them – actor Damien Cassidy, choreographer Clare Dyson and director Andrew Cory.”

“Working in teams, the young theatre makers will develop their own 20 minute plays and perform them in the Bille Brown Studio. We’ve asked them to explore new and unusual ways of performing including exploring the boundaries between the audience and performer and playing with the conventions of narrative and character.”

The residency starts on Wednesday 15 September and industry and young audiences will view the results on Tuesday 21 September at Bille Brown Studio.
