For the third year Riverland Youth Theatre will present PlayFest_10, the Riverland’s own community arts festival.
PlayFest began in 2008, and due to the success of the last two years, RYT has committed to continue to support PlayFest as a major community arts event on the Riverland calendar.
PlayFest_10 will continue to build on the success of the previous years’ festivals and is designed to encourage, support and inspire the whole community to get creative and be part of this fantastic community event.
RYT invites schools, community groups and groups of friends (read: everyone) to get together and create performance works for this growing annual open access arts festival. Performances and films only need to be short and tell a story. Participating groups will receive mentoring and support in producing their performances and it will all come together in an exciting, jam packed weekend.
Workshops will take place May - July, with the festival itself dated for August.
“This is the third year PlayFest has been held in the Riverland," explained Tully Bates, Creative Producer for PlayFest_10.
"PlayFest_10 is a community arts festival that anyone can be a part of. If you've ever wanted to write, direct or star in a play, make a short film, dance, sing, paint, make puppets or costumes, operate sound or lighting or design a set - now is your chance!”
“In 2008 the festival had one session and four short plays. In 2009 it grew to include three sessions, six plays, five films, two local musicians, a dance piece, a puppet show, short stories and a circus act. More than fifty performers strutted their stuff in 2009 and we’re hoping that 2010 will be even bigger.”
Registrations for PlayFest_10 are now open and RYT will have a stall at the Mammoth Monash Markets from 10am on Saturday 30th May where people can get more information.
