The FReeZA Push Start is a state-wide Battle of the Bands competition that showcases young and emerging Victorian performers under the age of 21 and has been doing so since 1995.
The program now incorporates 70 youth-music FReeZA Committees across the state that host heats, allowing young bands living in both regional and metropolitan areas to have an opportunity to compete.
Five local bands will battle it out in the Geelong heat of the Push Start Battle of the Bands at Geelong West Town Hall on Saturday, August 21. The all-ages gig will kick off at 5pm (doors open at 4.45pm) and will showcase different styles of original local music.
Vying for top prize this year are (in no particular order): Lash 78, Goose Coleman, Square One, The Underhanded and The Grand Elusive, with a special guest performance from The Houses (who won last years Geelong heat, the regional heat and went on to take out the State final).
The winner of the battle will go on to perform at the regional final later this year (stay tuned for more details). Winners of the regional finals will play at the PushOver festival in Melbourne on the long weekend in March 2011.
All the performers in the battle are under 21 years of age, so get on down to support Geelong’s newest talent, for the bargain price of $8 at the door!
