Exciting news for families - they don’t have to wait for Out of the Box* in 2012 to see children’s shows of Out of the Box fame. Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is pleased announce the return of two favourites from Out of the Box, Grug and Fluff, this August and September.
QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said that it is a joy to bring back high quality, world class theatre that is especially made for children.
“We are delighted to present quality work to family audiences through our Out of the Box festival which we have presented biennially since 1992 and also by bringing back some of most exquisite work that has ever been produced from previous festivals for standalone seasons.
“Fluff has toured extensively since it was first commissioned by QPAC for the Out of the Box Festival in 2002 and Grug, which was commissioned by QPAC and Windmill Theatre for Out of the Box 2010, has also enjoyed popular remounts. Both shows make a welcome return to QPAC to once again entertain and delight the youngest of audiences,” said Kotzas.
“Grug, based on the popular picture books by Ted Prior is a magical stage production which brings Ted Prior's hugely popular character to life, and is enthralling to children and parents alike.
Proving that good things come in very cute packages (and over 100,000 Facebook fans can’t be wrong); Grug performances were sold out at last year’s Out of the Box festival.
“This relatively small show with one very big star is held in such high regard that it is being performed on QPAC’s Lyric Theatre stage where audience members will be seated on the stage so they can get up close to their favourite character Grug and friends,” said Kotzas.
Don’t miss this award-winning show (winner of the Victor Award for best production at the 2011 International Performing Arts for Youth showcase in Tampa, Florida and nominated in the 2011 Helpmann Awards for ‘Best Presentation for Children’) before it takes off to tour around the world!
“Fluff tells the story of The Gingham family who are very concerned for all the lost and discarded hand-made toys and travel the world to find them. They bring them to their colourful home of odd shaped boxes and welcome them into the family.
“Adding to the fun, children will have the special opportunity to meet the artists and the toys after each performance of Fluff,” said Kotzas.
Fluff is simple, joyful and humorous tale told with a twist. It has been acclaimed for its originality, warmth, clever use of comedy and extraordinary combination of song, movement, sampling, projection and audience participation.
Don’t miss Fluff as it takes over the Cremorne Theatre from 13 September in perfect time for the school holidays.
