QPAC take you on a Magical Musical Journey

posted Monday, 1 Feb

A must see performance for children and families, QPAC presents the Queensland première of 'Family Pops on Sunday'; an afternoon of orchestral music from the world of children’s books, film and television, on March 14, in QPAC’s Concert Hall.

Performed by Barrie Gott’s Queensland Pops Orchestra, 'Family Pops on Sunday' stars guest narrators Emily Branford and John Wood (Blue Heelers), and provides a wonderful introduction for young audiences to orchestral music.

The program will take the audience on a musical journey from Prokofiev’s classic 'Peter and the Wolf', which highlights the individual instruments of the orchestra, to the magical songs of Disney films and the comic music of Warner Bros cartoons.

A highlight of the performance is a very special telling of popular Australian outback tale, Miss Lily’s Fabulous Pink Feather Boa. Based on Margaret Wild’s children’s book, composer, Quentin Grant’s musical adaptation takes the story from page to stage in a warm and magically musical journey.

A story about a shy potoroo who believes she is the only one left in Australia, and Miss Lily, a tango dancing crocodile, these colourful characters premiered in a work for string orchestra commissioned by the Australian Symphony Orchestra and created for children, as part of the 2007 Come Out Festival.

Miss Lily’s Fabulous Pink Feather Boa is a story of discovery, exploring special friendships, and the belief you can achieve anything you put your mind to. A delightful celebration of music literature and imagery, Miss Lily will tango her way into your heart as she wraps you up in her fabulous pink feather boa.

And children attending the concert will be able to relive this special story, as they will receive a free copy of Miss Lily’s Fabulous Pink Feather Boa to take away.

The program includes What’s up at the Symphony – Bugs Bunny’s Greatest Hits; Peter and the Wolf - narrated by John Wood; Disney Magic; Miss Lily’s Fabulous Pink Feather Boa* - composed by Quentin Grant and narrated by Emily Branford; and Soul Bossa Nova.

You can catch 'Family Pops on Sunday' at the QPAC Concert Hall on Sunday, March 14 at 2pm. For bookings and enquiries visit www.qpac.com.au or phone 136 246.
