QL2's talented young dancers from Quantum Leap form a part of a creative youth ensemble with professional choreographers, composers and filmmakers. Dancing their hearts out in a demanding, supportive and structured environment. they develop an understanding of choreographic processes and work together to create sophisticated productions that wrestle with big ideas.
Quantum Leapers are selected by an audition process from dancers with training, experience or aptitude in movement, such as contemporary dance, street funk, classical ballet, hip-hop, jazz dance, gymnastics, martial arts, or circus. They are committed to a timetable of classes and an extended series of workshops leading to performances.
Identify is QL2's major project during the year for Quantum Leap dancers, which will culminate in a performance season at “The Q” theatre in August. Identify will be a triple bill, with each work looking at how people identify themselves: where they came from, where they are going, who they are online.
Choreographer Adam Wheeler (Artistic Director of 2ndToe Dance Collective) is developing the first piece, Toes on the Edge, in January. Jodie Farrugia (Flying Fruit Fly Circus) will work with another group in February. The third work, by acclaimed Sydney-based choreographer, Anton (Legs on the Wall, Tasdance) will be developed in the April and July school holidays with all newly-auditioned dancers, plus experienced Quantum Leapers.
The group will be joined for the last weeks by visiting dancers from Bangkok Dance Academy, Maya Dance Theatre (Singapore), and dancers from tertiary courses around Australia. Video producers Bearcage Productions will design and produce a video component, and there will be an original music score.
