ReelDance, a festival-shaped collision of art, dance and film will be strutting across Adelaide's silver screens from November 3-13.
The ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival is Australia's largest event celebrating the art of dance film and video. Presented biennially since 2000, it aims to promote significant examples of local and international dance screen work, and to represent a broad variety of dance genres from contemporary through to classical forms.
Sitting between the performing arts and film culture, this film festival caters to both dance and film audiences with a focus on screen musicals, music videos and contemporary dance on screen. These genres cover the breadth and depth of the art form, from the rich cinematic history of the film musical through to popular dance forms and experimental video techniques featured in music clips, to the poetics of the world's greatest contemporary choreographers.
Past festivals have attracted a high calibre of individual contributors such as filmmakers: Henry Chalfant, Sophie Fiennes, Antony Atanasio, Octavio Iturbe, Andrew Lancaster, Spike Jonze and John Smith; choreographers: Wim Vandekeybus, Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker, Lloyd Newson, Jonathan Burrows and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and companies: Ultima Vez, DV8 Dance Theatre, Ballet Frankfurt, Black Grace and Les Ballets C de la B.
Past festivals have also attracted major support from venues in 7 capital cities and 5 regional centres across Australia.
In 2010 the 6th ReelDance Festival is exploring the theme of Space, spotlighting how the Artist, in the creation of their work, engages with the potential of Space. The theme will focus on 4 main areas: physical space; emotional space; imaginative space; and tensions held in space.
