It's been an exciting few months at Restless headquarters, with the launch of their new website and a hoard of awards received.
Most recently, Restless picked up the 2010 Ruby Award for Sustained Contribution by an organisation. In accepting the award Nick Hughes, Company Manager, said that the award belonged to lots of different people who have contributed to the success of Restless. He acknowledged in particular the role of Sally Chance, founding Artistic Director, as well as all the succeeding Artistic Directors: Kat Worth, Billie Cook, Ingrid Voorendt and now Philip Channells (pictured with the Ruby). He also paid tribute to the many artists and musicians who have contributed to Restless and in particular to designer Gaelle Mellis, who has made such a valuable contribution to the look and feel of all the company's work. Nick said that the award also belongs of course, to all the dancers who have worked with the company and to their parents, friends and supporters who made their contribution possible. And finally it belongs to all the Board Members who have supported the company and who were represented by Jayne Boase, Chair of Restless who accepted the award along with Nick.
Restless also took out the award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth or Community Dance at the 2010 Australian Dance Awards on June 20th. The award was for Bedroom Dancing, the Youth Ensemble major production presented as part of last year’s Come Out Festival and was directed by Steve Mayhew.
The Necessary Games triptych of short films also continues to win awards, the most recent being Best Experimental at the XIII Brooklyn International Film Festival in New York. The films are currently touring Australia in the Reeldance International Dance on Screen Festival 2010. Check out the website for more details of screenings.
And speaking of the Restless website, it's all shiny and new! Restless teamed up with Amy Milhinch (from Dilfinch and Dilfinch) and Freerange Future to create the sharp new site, keeping with the classic Restless colour scheme of yellow and black but giving it a hip twist. The Restless gang are keen to know what you think of the new look website, so please send them your comments.
