Timothy Sexton receives the 2009 South Australian of the Year Arts Award

Prominent South Australian performer, Timothy Sexton, was last night announced as the ARTS
category recipient of the prestigious 2009 South Australian of the Year Awards.


The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Mr Michael Harbison, presented Mr Sexton with the
Award at a black-tie presentation ceremony held at the Adelaide Town Hall last night. Mr Sexton received the Award in front of an audience of peers, media and high-profile business and community leaders.


Timothy Sexton is one of South Australia’s most prominent musicians, having worked as a freelance composer, conductor, arranger, singer, writer and adjudicator over the past 30 years.


He has composed more than 200 works, mostly for theatre and choirs, including operas and musicals and has worked with many of South Australia’s performing arts companies such as the State Theatre, Jumbuck Theatre Company, Junction Theatre Company, Patch Theatre, Windmill Performing Arts and Slingsy Productions as well as producing work for OzOpera.


Currently the Artistic Director/ Conductor of the Adelaide Art Orchestra, he recently composed the
original film score for the feature movie The Marriage of Figaro and has conducted many musicals
and operas.


He is a two-time recipient of the Henry Krips Memorial Conducting Scholarship and in 2003 was
awarded a Centenary Medal for Services to Music. In 2008, Timothy received the Premier’s Ruby
Award for Sustained Contribution to the Arts by an individual.


Mr Sexton is recognised for his contribution to the Arts in South Australia.

the Arts in South Australia.

“Timothy has given tirelessly to the local performing arts scene over a period of many  years,” Ms Seymour-Smith said.


“I am thrilled that Timothy was chosen as the Arts winner of the South Australian of the Year
Awards. He is truly deserving of this prestigious Award.”

All winners of the 2009 South Australian of the Year Awards were selected from both public and peer nominations.
