South Australian Youth Arts Board re-named

posted Tuesday, 1 Dec

The long-established South Australian Youth Arts Board (SAYAB) has been renamed and will now been know as the Carclew Youth Arts Board.

The name is the only thing which has been changed, with the Board’s function and members remaining the same.

“The name was changed simply to enhance transparency and eliminate the confusion which surrounded the relationship between SAYAB, Carclew and the youth arts industry,” said the Chair of Carclew Youth Arts’ Board, Kate Gould.

“The Board and Carclew have, from Day 1, been the same organisation. The Board setting policy and Carclew administering that policy – acting as the Board’s arms and legs.”

The different names stemmed from the original constitution which established SAYAB. That constitution has now been amended to bring clarity.

“It’s not surprising that a lot of people never clearly understood the relationship,” said Kate Gould.

Carclew Youth Arts the State Government's Youth Arts Policy body and is responsible for policy, funding and strategic initiatives that encourages participation and excellence in the arts for South Australian children and young people aged 26 years and under.

The Carclew funding programs aim to encourage exciting and innovative youth arts activity of a high standard, across the full range of the arts. Providing these grants and schemes supports and develops artistic activity for, by and with young South Australians 26 years and under.
