State Theatre Company of SA presents The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (ABRIDGED)
by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield from 25 March – 16 April 2011 at the DUNSTAN PLAYHOUSE
Enjoy Shakespeare but too “time poor” to endure the full-length plays? This is the show for you!
Three brave actors act, alliterate and amaze in this hilarious romp through all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in just 99 minutes!
First performed in 1987 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, from Romeo to Richard III no Shakespeare character is safe during this side-splitting roller coaster ride involving improvisation, pop culture and audience participation, as well as the fastest, funniest Hamlet you’re ever likely to see (the current record stands at 43 seconds!).
“I love directing comedies and this one’s an absolute cracker!” says Director Adam Cook.
“If you’ve been allergic to Shakespeare up until now, this show is the perfect remedy! In a production bursting with comic energy and featuring appearances by sock puppets and sharks, vampires and dinosaurs, severed heads, kilted poltergeists, lobotomies and a fair bit of projectile vomiting, it’s guaranteed to convert even the most resistant to the many splendours of Shakespeare.”
Join three brave actors brazenly blend the best of the brilliant Bard with the bottom of the absurdity barrel. These guys seem to be making it up as they go along, getting by on blind enthusiasm and boundless energy in a performance that William Shatner…er, Shakespeare…himself would be proud of. May the Bard be with you!
This performance is also part of Come Out Festival 2011.
“It’s fast, fun, and deliciously silly.”
